  1. I live in Ohio. My pond is in my somewhat shaded backyard. Pond size is 15’x15′, 4-5′ deep. Would I be able to grow this in my pond successfully? Would the fish or frogs be harmed by the thorns? What is the cost of a tuber/plant?

    • The key with Vics is temperature and light. They do need full sun, with water temperatures in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. The pot would need to be lifted up as 4 feet would be too deep. Goldfish should be fine; koi I would not mix with a Victoria. I have never seen any problems with frogs and Vics. Normally plants are not available until June with a pad size of 8+ inches. Bare root plants are $75. There is no tuber or rhizome, so these are true annuals. A normal growing plant could cover up at least a 10 x 10 area of a pond.
