Often in smaller container gardens, tropical fish are commonly used to control mosquito larvae and algae. In western New York, these fish will stay in the pond from early June until mid September, depending on the water temperature. Living outside lets these fish grow to the maximum potential and develop brilliant colors. Among the favorites are paradise fish, guppies, barbs and various African cichlids.
