Nepenthes robcantleyi BE3517

Nepenthes robcantleyi BE3517

“Some time back Borneo Exotics bred two of the only nine plants known in cultivation of this, one of the rarest of all Nepenthes, Nepenthes robcantleyi. The area where seed that gave rise to the original nine plants was collected was devastated by logging activities in the late 1990s and Nepenthes robcantleyi is believed to be either critically endangered, or possibly even extinct in the wild. N. robcantleyi is endemic to the Philippine island of Mindanao. The female parent of this release has the cultivar name ‘Queen of Hearts’, and  is very probably the most photographed Nepenthes in history, having appeared on many of BE gold medal winning Chelsea Flower show exhibits. The male parent named ‘King of Spades’ is darker in overall coloration than the ‘Queen of Hearts’ and has green peristome wings.” Expect extra large pitchers with an extremely wide peristome on these plants.

Plant are in a 4 inch plastic pot filled with long fiber sphagnum moss and perlite.

April 2023: We are pleased to offer small size plants at a lower price, 3 large Nepenthes robcantleyi.

Tropical Pitcher Plant (Nepenthes sp.) Care

  • Best to use only pure water – rainwater, distilled water or RO water. Be careful of bottled water as some contain salt which will kill your Tropical Pitcher plant
  • Keep a small amount of pure water in each trap. Mist plants regularly.
  • Keep soil moist; but well drained at all times. Do Not let your Nepenthes sit in water
  • Nepenthes like partial sunny location. They grow well on windowsills or under fluorescent lights in a terrarium.
  • Soil is mixture 3 parts long fiber sphagnum with 1 part perlite or 1 part fine orchid bark.
  • Fertilize Nepenthes with foliar fertilizer. ¼ tsp of Maxsea per gallon of water, 2 times a month
  • Nepenthes like to grow warm: above 50 degrees. Ideal is 65 to 80 degrees with high humidity.

Note: Pitchers will change in color and shape as they mature. Often there are also several different clones in our mix, so the pitchers may vary slightly for this reason as well.
