Dendrobium thyrsiflorum

Dendrobium thyrsiflorum originates from the mountains of Northern Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. It is often referred as the pine cone orchid due to its tapering cluster of flowers.

Dendrobium thyrsiflorum may be grown in pots or mounted on driftwood or grown in baskets. During the winter its needs to be watered much less , every other week, and it likes its cool at night ( as low as 45 to 50 F). Blooming occurs in the spring. While the flowers last only a couple of weeks a mature plant will flower multiple times. Flowers are a pure white with a yellow center. Once new growths emerge, water every few days and fertilize weekly.

These are large plants, growing in a plastic basket.
